The Restore Ketamine Infusion
Before you arrive
We understand, if you’ve suffered for years and given up hope of ever finding relief, Restore can almost sound too good to be true. But it is true. Restore can rapidly bring relief from depression and chronic pain when nothing else has.
Prior to arriving at our Restore infusion center, you may experience an array of feelings: anxiety, hopefulness, doubt, or a mixture of many emotions. There is anxiety due to the unknown: is it going to hurt, how am I going to feel, and ultimately is it going to work? The hopefulness comes from the possibility of actually feeling some relief and getting to back to a “normal” life. The good new is the infusion can be a very rewarding and positive experience for many people who have suffered with chronic pain and depression for years.
Don't worry, we are here to answer any of your questions before you arrive. If you need any help in planning your trip we will be happy to help. We can advise you about the most convenient places to stay, getting around town or where to go to quietly relax after your infusion.
At the Restore Infusion Center
We want you to be as comfortable and relaxed as possible. Once you arrive at our infusion center you will find a calm, peaceful atmosphere with dimmed lighting and soothing music, similar to a spa. After reviewing your paperwork and questionnaires regarding your current medical issues, you can sit back and relax. You have finished all the work you need to do.
When you are ready, you will move to a private room with a quiet and relaxed atmosphere, which has a reclining chair and the necessary medical equipment for your infusion. The doctor will review all of your medical records and briefly examine you to assess your physical condition. He will also start an IV for your infusion and attach all of the necessary monitoring equipment. Your doctor will explain every step of the process all along the way and answer any questions you may have.
The doctor will always be with you during your infusion, but you are welcome to bring someone in the room with you if you would like. The infusion experience is deeply personal, and you will never be left alone during the infusion. If you brought someone with you, he will ask them not to converse with you unless you initiate it. Many patients choose to listen to music during the treatment.
The Restore Infusion
Once the infusion actually starts, it takes a few minutes before you begin to feel the effects of the medication. Some people feel very happy and talkative right from the beginning and have great conversations with the doctor, while others just want to relax and sit quietly.
Physically, you will feel extremely relaxed. But your mind will be fully engaged. The sensation might seem strange at first, but most patients describe it as very pleasant. Some people may feel a little dizzy but…don’t worry. The doctor has medication he can give you that will lessen these issues if they occur.
The infusion lasts about 30 minutes and there can be a range of feelings throughout this time. This is normal. One feeling or another doesn’t determine the final result – each individual is unique. Throughout the whole process the doctor will be right by your side checking to make sure you are doing okay and to answer any questions. We want you to be comfortable and relaxed.
Getting Back To Normal
After the infusion is completed, you will have some time to adjust. Experiencing slight dizziness at the end of infusion is common, but subsides in about 10 minutes. You will be assisted to the relaxation room where you will rest for 30 minutes on a couch or chair. By this time, you may feel “happy” or not notice much immediate change in your mood – either is normal and doesn’t determine the final outcome. You will be released to go home, but will not be permitted to drive yourself so bring someone who can drive you. If you do come alone, don't worry, we will assist you with transportation and getting back home safely.
How Will I Feel After My Infusion?
For the immediate period following an infusion (usually 4-6 hours) you should not drive, operate machinery, or sign legal documents. Many patients feel so relaxed after the infusion that they like to rest quietly for a short period of time. After that your activity is entirely dependent on how you feel.
Some patients enjoy taking part in activities after the infusion such as going to the gym or yoga. Others prefer a sunset stroll on the beach and a quiet dinner. There are many options available to suit everyone's preference.
Friends and Family Want To Know:
Ask your friends and family not to bombard you with questions after the infusion. They will naturally want to ask “Did it work?” or “Do you feel better?” But the effects can be extremely subtle at first and many patients have trouble putting the experience into words. You may need time to process it. Even those who can sense an immediate change often find it impossible to articulate at first. When people ask those questions it can make you feel pressured not to disappoint them. To them, these seem like easy questions, but to you the answers may be complicated in ways you can’t explain. Let them know ahead of time that you’ll talk about it when you’re ready, which might take a few days.
